LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A flash flood warning has been issued in parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties – including in the Palisades and Eaton fire burn areas – as the brunt of a strong storm arrives in Southern California.
Storm timeline
There will be periods of moderate to heavy rain Thursday. The storm is ramping up as a cold front moves in from the north. The Los Angeles area will see the heaviest amount of rain from mid-afternoon to early evening.
A flash flood warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for parts of L.A. and Ventura counties. A flood watch will also be in effect from Thursday morning through the night for most of Orange County.
The steady amounts of rain are heightening concerns of debris and mudflows in recent burn scar areas in Altadena and Pacific Palisades.
The cold front starts leaving the region Thursday night. Showers will linger through Friday as the storm moves out, setting up a dry weekend.
As far as rain totals from this storm, lower elevations could see as much as three inches over the three-day period. Higher terrain areas, such as foothill and mountain communities, could receive as much as 5-6 inches of rain.
Thursday weather
Los Angeles and Orange counties Thursday will see windy conditions, along with a high of around 59 degrees and a low of 51. The storm is expected to drop between 2-3 inches of rain by the end of the day.
The valleys and Inland Empire will see similar temperatures, reaching a high of 58 and a low of 50. Expect between 3-5 inches of rain.
Beaches Thursday can expect gusty winds, with a high of 58 and a low of 49. The storm is expected to drop between 2-3 inches of rain.
The mountains will see a chance for snow – about 1-2 feet – at elevations of 8,000 feet. A high of 41 and a low of 26 is expected.
Desert areas Thursday will be around 59 degrees in the afternoon and 45 overnight. Up to 1 inch of rain could fall.
